The museum preserves the early heritage of McPherson County. The museum collects, preserves, researches, exhibits and interprets materials related to this heritage with special emphasis on the period from 1870 to 1910.

Enjoy a stroll through yesterday! Exhibits in 12 buildings provide a glimpse into the lives of central Kansas pioneers. Visit a restored 1898 flour mill and learn how Kansas wheat was made into flour. See the mill in operation at Millfest, held annually, the first weekend in May. Millfest includes guided tours of the operating mill for ages 13 & up, pioneer arts, live music and great food!

Experience Swedish elegance at the 1904 Swedish Pavilion. Step into this beautiful Swedish structure and you’ll feel as if you are visiting the building at its original location, the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis.

Return to school days of long ago with a visit to the 1879 & 1903 schools. Feel what it was like to purchase train tickets at the 1879 Union Pacific Depot. Visit a general store, bank, ladies shop, blacksmith shop and livery stable to learn more about daily life of the time. Take a closer look at farm work through a variety of farm equipment including a 1910 Rumley oil-pull tractor, and Yellow Kid threshing machine.

The museum archives can help find your family roots. If you have ancestors who lived in McPherson County, it’s likely some record of their lives can be found in the historical documents here. Have
Swedish ancestors? Ask about resources for Swedish research!
