Meet The Sheriff |

Larry G Powell was elected McPherson County Sheriff in 1992. Prior to
being elected Sheriff, Powell had worked in law enforcement for 17 continuous
years in McPherson County.
Starting in 1972 he was a patrolman for the
McPherson Police Department. In 1975, Powell went to work for the
McPherson County Sheriff as a deputy, and then was promoted to Captain. In
1979 he was promoted to Undersheriff.
Powell has received five officer
commendations for his years in law enforcement. Under his administration
several new programs were developed, such as D.A.R.E. program, K-9 unit, drug
task force and the Special Response Team, which conducts high-risk entries,
along with several other programs. Currently Sheriff Powell has held the
position of Sheriff longer than anyone in the history of McPherson County.
McPherson County has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.
