GENEALOGY & LOCAL HISTORY
As the county archives we receive many of the older county government records no longer housed at the courthouse. We also receive various records from across the county from other sources. In addition, we have resources for Swedish genealogy (see link below).

We are happy to help you with your family research. Please review our policies to insure we can help you in the best way possible.

  1. Access ONLINE records or Send us a Research Request:

Most of our records are indexed. Many have an ONLINE index. Please check them out here to save time. If you find your family in an online index, simply fill out a Copies Request (link below) and send it to us with your payment.

Some records do not have an online index. To request a search of these records, please completed a Research Request (link below) and submit it to us. Research time is $15 per hour, with a one hour minimum. Once we receive your Research Request, a staff member will be happy to visit with you about an estimate of time and cost for your particular search.
  2. Visit the Archives:

Researchers are welcome, but YOU MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. Our staff is small. Appointments are required to insure someone is here to help you. Simply call 785-227-3595 or send an email to  to set an appointment.

Research assistance in the archives is $15 per hour plus copy costs. Once you make an appointment a staff member will be happy to visit with you about an estimate of time and cost for your particular search.
